Instructions by Crandall Office Furniture on how to remove and reinstall the Back Pad on a Steelcase Gesture Chair.

While we don’t recommend removing the back pad on your Gesture chair, it may become necessary for some maintenance or adjustments. But if the need ever arises, we’ve got you covered with this quick guide.

Removing the Back Pad

  1. To remove the pad, pull the edges of the pad away from the frame near the lumbar. Then, while still pulling the edges, lift the pad up and away from the frame to release it from the plastic tabs. Exercise caution while lifting the back, as too much force can break the plastic tabs and affect the chairs performance down the road.
  2. The lumbar tabs should disengage while lifting the pad. If they don’t just lean the pad forward, its ok to use some force here if necessary.

3. Lean the back pad forward to expose the rubber loops securing the pad to the bottom of the frame. Then, unloop the loops to free the pad.

Reinstalling the Back Pad.

  1. To reinstall the back pad, start by aligning the white loop hooks with the rubber loops in the back frame of your chair.
  2. Secure each loop around their respective white loop hooks. These will help keep your pad from sliding up the frame.
  3. Then, lift the pad back up to the frame and over the plastic tabs.
  4. Slide the pad down the chair frame until you hear two clicks. These clicks signal that your back pad is fully reinstalled and secure.

Conclusion:

The Back Pad on the Gesture chair is relatively easy to remove and install, and we hope you found this article and video helpful in achieving that task. If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to reach out to us via our contact page, chat, or on our Facebook page.
