How to Adjust the Set Screw on a Steelcase Leap V1 and V2 Chair

Ryan Snyder |

Today we’re going to walk you through how to adjust the set screw on a top-activated Steelcase Leap V1 and V2 chair. I’ll be demonstrating this process on a V2 chair, but rest assured, the steps are exactly the same for both V1 and V2 models. So, let’s dive in!

Steps to Adjust the Set Screw:

Remove the Seat:

•To access the set screw, you’ll need to first remove the seat.

•If you need a more detailed guide on how to remove the seat, there’s a link provided in the description below.

Gather Tools:

•You’ll need a long flathead screwdriver and a 1/8-inch Allen key.

Access the Set Screw:

•Once the seat is removed, you’ll have clear access to the set screw.

Adjust the Set Screw (If Too Loose):

•Insert the Allen key into the set screw.

•If the lever doesn’t activate the chair, it indicates the screw is too loose.

•Tighten the screw by making small adjustments (a quarter to half a turn at a time).

•Test the lever’s function after each adjustment.

•Continue adjusting in small increments until the chair functions properly.

Test the Chair:

•After adjusting, test the chair at its lowest position to ensure it stays in place as it should.

Adjust the Set Screw (If Too Tight):

•If the chair raises and lowers without the lever being activated, the set screw is too tight.

•Use the Allen key to loosen the set screw.

•Make small adjustments (a quarter to half a turn) and test after each adjustment.

Reinstall the Seat:

•Line up the grooves on the seat with the glides on the top of the chair.

•Press the seat depth adjustment lever, align the seat, and slide it back into place.
