How to Adjust Your Haworth Fern Chair: A Comprehensive Guide
Hi there! Dave with Crandall Office here, and today we’re going to walk you through how to adjust your Haworth Fern chair. Let’s dive right in!
1. Height Adjustment
The first adjustment to tackle is the height adjustment, located on the right side of the chair. When seated, you’ll find a lever here. To raise the chair, lift the lever without applying any weight. To lower the chair, put weight on the seat and pull the lever—it’s that simple!
2. Tilt Tension Adjustment
Next up is the tilt tension adjustment, which controls how easy or difficult it is to lean back in the chair. This feature is also on the right-hand side, managed by a crank. If it’s too tough to lean back, turn the crank counterclockwise to loosen the tension. If you want more resistance, turn it clockwise. Get it just right for your comfort!
3. Back Stop (Variable Stop Tilt Lock)
The back stop, or variable stop tilt lock, determines how far back the chair can lean. This feature allows for five different positions, from fully upright to a more relaxed recline. Adjust it to find the perfect angle for your workday.
4. Seat Depth Adjustment
On the left side of the chair, you’ll find the seat depth adjustment. If your chair has both forward tilt and seat depth adjustment, this lever will be the rearmost handle. Pull up on the lever to slide the seat back and forth to your desired position. Release the lever to lock it in place. This can be adjusted while seated, although it’s often easier to do so when standing.
5. Forward Tilt Adjustment (Optional)
If your Fern chair includes the forward tilt option, you’ll find the control on the left side of the seat, in the forwardmost position. Pull up on the handle to tilt the seat forward and lock it in place. To deactivate, simply pull up again and level the seat.
6. Fully Adjustable Arms
The Haworth Fern chair features fully adjustable 4D arms. These can be adjusted up and down, in and out, pivoted, and slid forward and back, giving you complete control over your armrest positioning.
7. Lumbar Adjustment (Optional)
The optional lumbar adjustment on the Fern chair is a unique design made from a plasticky, rubbery material. This piece provides additional cushion for your lower back. Adjust the lumbar support by raising or lowering it to hit different points on your back. Note that the firmness of the lumbar support is not adjustable.
8. Headrest Adjustment (Optional)
Finally, if your chair includes a headrest, you can adjust its height by pushing it up or down. While there’s no depth adjustment, you can easily find a comfortable position. Just be aware that the headrest may be stiff when new, but it will loosen up over time.
